Cop stories are not new to Tamil cinema. Many has been handled with utmost vigour and they have been penned in such a way glorifying the hero uttering punchlines and bashing the goons. Strikingly different from the rest is Aarthu Sinam. The movie has a honest police officer, who loses his way due to alchoholic habit, gets the big task of cracking murder mystery. How he does that forms the crux. The movie unfolds with Arulnithi plays a drunkard cop, who is dejected and down with the death of his wife and child. And at the same time, a series of murders takes place in the village. The clueless police department entrusts Arulnithi to track the criminals. How he does that makes up the movie. There is enough twists and turns in the script that makes up the movie. Arulnithi does a gem of a show. He lives the role of a drunkard cop. Interestingly he does that strikingly different from what Prithviraj did. Ishwarya Rajesh is adequate. She does it with ease and elan. The intriguing thriller with Robo Shankar as a greedy cop is adequate. What makes the movie is interesting is the way Aruvazhagan made changes in it to choose Tamil audience. It is itense, engaging and makes sure the audience are forced to sit on the edge of their seats. Interestingly, the sub plots too are engaging. Three cheers to the crew for a movie that manages to hold your attention. But for some expected sequence of events, the rest is appreciable. Aarathu Sinam is a good watch.
