Bairavaa – Review

Actor Vijay and his craze for commercial masala movies is evident to everyone.

Bairavaa is no different from his earlier outings as the actor has chosen to play to the gallery.

Directed by Barathan, Vijay has evidently tried to rehash Rajini moments in the movie.

It is a mass story that we have seen in Shankar kind of movies. The story comes with overdose of mass moments that Vijay fans would love to see.

The movie begins in Chennai and ends in Tirunelveli. Bairavaa (Vijay) is a righteous collection agent in a ICCI bank. He falls in first sight for Malar Vizhi (Keerthy Suresh), a girl from Thirunelveli. A flashback says that she is in trouble and the reason is an educationalist PK (Jagapathy Babu). Her life is under threat. What Bairavaa does to save her forms the rest.

Vijay carries the whole movie on his shoulders. His screen presence and mannerisms and improvisation on screen makes it tick.

Keerthy Suresh’s character is not an usual one. Jagapathy Babu and Daniel Balaji as villains are regulars that we see in commercial cinema. Sathish’s one-liners works at some places.

Bairavaa has below average songs by Santosh Narayanan, except ‘Varalam Varalam Vaa Bairavaa’ song. Sugumar’s camera is bright and beautiful.

The action scenes in particular were well choreographed, thanks to Anal Arasu. Barathan has penned some catchy mass dialogues that evokes good response among Vijay fans.

The movie falls flat towards the end. If the intention of Vijay is to come with an out-and-out colourful commercial, then he seems to have tasted success but only in parts.
