It all starts in a bar. The group of boys from Chennai 28 come together for a reunion for a sequel, titled Chennai 28 second innings.
Ten years down the lane, the boys, now men reunited for the wedding of their friend. This time too their game is centred around cricket.
Siva, Nitin, Vijay Vasanth and Ajay Raj are married while Premgi is still a bachelor. Jai is to marry Sana Althaf at her village. Jai invites everyone to the wedding.
Arvind Aakash meets them and convinces them to participate in a gully cricket match against the local rowdy Vaibav. Their participation leads to Jai’s wedding being called off.
How the boys mend ways and pull off the match forms the rest of the story.
One of the biggest plus point for the entire movie is the one liners. The movie is loaded with it and this evolves lots of emotions and commotions too.
Jai plays the perfect lover boy. Siva’s one liners are like veins to the plot. Premgi in his carefree attitute remains as always.
The antagonist played by Vaibav is well blended. He rocks the screen and seems to have added more spice to the movie.
The girls Vijayalakshmi, Sana Althaf, Anjana Kirti, Maheshwari Chanakyan and Krithika are at their best. Many of them who are wives to the boys play a perfect match for thier respective lives.
Match commentary by Badava Gopi seems neat and clean. The climax is griping and is portrayed like a world cup match final.
All said and done, the hero of the movie is Venkat Prabhu. He has presented one large spread in a single plate. The screenplay is pretty fast making it an interesting watch.
Yuvan’s songs and BGM work big time for the film. What is a Venkat Prabhu movie without an item number. Manisha Yadav as Soppana Sundari in the sizzling number provides the oomph factor.
Rajesh Yadav’s cinematography travels along with the mood of the scenes. KL Praveen’s editing is good.
A keen eye could have done it much better. And the first half has some dull moments, And the songs doesn’t gel well at times.
The movie however is for those who watched first part of Chennai 28.
