The general council meeting of film artistes association (Nadigar Sangam) was held amid protests, fights and arrests.
The premises at Habibullah Road in T Nagar became the scene for action (violence), after a group of men and women allegedly supporters of actors who were suspended from the sangam were denied entry to the meet.
The fight became intense when actor Karunaas’ car was pelted. The police had to intervene to averted further clashes. Over 20 persons were arrested and were kept at a community hall in Teynampet.
At the meeting an unanimous decision was taken to remove former President Sarathkumar and General Secretary Radha Ravi from the Sangam.
Passing the resolution, Vishal, said, ‘We sought explanation for mismanagement of sangam funds. In spite of repeated requests there was no response from them. It is not our intention to take a confrontational stance, but this needs to be done.’
Former president of Nadigar Sangam Sarath Kumkar said that he would face the issue legally. In a press release, he said, ‘When the case against our temporary suspension is still pending the Nadigar Sangam has no right in removing us forever from the association’.
Kamal Haasan, who could not attend the meet, addressed the gathering through skype. He said, ‘The unity among our young artistes deserve a praise. They have come together to do their best and I am confident that better days are near’.
He added, ‘though there were last minute hiccups, the fact that we are meeting at our place gives me great joy. It is our native place.’
The annual general body meeting was also attended by Vikram, Vijay Sethupathi, Sivakarthikeyan and other office bearers of Nadigar Sangam.
Senior member of the Sangam, Raadika questioned on the removal of Sarath Kumar and Radharavi, ‘How can u suspend? Undertaking given that no discussion of either parties, courting contempt of court? Which Commissioner have permission for change of venue on a Saturday, I want to see the paper on permission given. Why no agenda was given. Why was I a life member not informed? How did you get nod in AGM without quorum and how?’
She also pointed her questions to Nadigar Sangam’s treasurer Karthi ‘@Karthi_Offl you claim no accounts was given, aft election @realsarathkumar gave Nazar all books at a hotel which was videotaped. So what do u think was given Love letters to you!!!! Did you ever ask for any clarification if so prove it.’
