Kamal spoke his heart out and took a dig at his detractors speaking at a function organised to celebrate his 61st birthday today.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, ‘for voices of growing intolerance, there is no use returning awards. Did Mahatma Gandhi return the title given by the British? Why should I return my award. It is like disrespecting those intellectuals who gave me the award’.
‘I will raise voice if a suspicion arises that my right to freedom of speech and that of my friends and brothers will be infringed,’ said Kamal Haasan.
‘People asked if I was coming to politics, it is not required.’
On the beef row, he said, ‘if you do not like beef, don’t eat, I was eating it, but now I have decided that I will not eat animals bigger than me,’ he said, adding, choice of food should be left to the people. ‘Don’t give menu card to others’.
