Thangamagan – Review

After a successful outing in Velai Illa Pattathari comes Thanga Magan from Velraj-Dhanush combo. They have consciously tried to stay away from their last and tried embark on a romantic and emotional journey interspread with few mass elements here and there for ardent Dhanush fans. Dhanush plays Tamizh, a college student in the first half and a matured family bird ones he gets married in the latter part. A fun-loving youngster Tamizh is pampered by his parents (K S Ravikumar and Radhika). Thamizh along with his friend (Sathish) and cousin (Adith) spends carefree life. He happens to see Hema (Amy Jackson) and it’s love at first sight. But the romance is shortlived and enters Yamuna (Samantha). Due to turn of events, Tamizh follows his father’s footsteps and joins Income Tax Department and his middle class life is filled with challenges. Sadly his father ends his life one day and this shocks Tamizh. What happens in his life ? Why his father committed suicide? Watch the film. Dhanush has given his best. He is subtle but emotive. He manages to bring out right emotions with two dimensions to his character. He shows right variation in his body language. Both Samantha and amy get equal opportunity on screen and deliver it with aplomb. Interestingly Ravikumar and Radhika manage to infuse energey in the script. They get under the skin of the character and excel. Sathish’s comedy in the company of Dhanush is good. Anirudh’s music is good and the theme song is catchy. Newcomer Kumaran cranks the camera. Produced by Wunderbar Films, the first half of the movie is well-written and events unfold in a brisk manner. However, in the second half the momentum is lost.
