In love for their guru

It was all fun and excitement as several cinematographers came under one roof to celebrate the birthday of their mentor and ace cameraman P C Sreeram as he turned 60 on Tuesday.

His sishyas along with their families landed on the sets of Sivakarthikeyan’s next venture, which on the floors in Chennai. P C Sreeram is cranking the camera for the movie, being directed by Bagyarajkannan.

Nostalgic moments filled in the air as many of them shared their experiences working under PC, who was recently elected as president of the South Indian Cinematographers Association.

Sivakarthikeyan spoke about his experience of working with P C Sreeram and said that he admired the senior cameraman’s sense of humour, sources added.

A student of Madras Film Institute, he is widely regarded as the Guru of Cinematography’. He was much appreciated for his directorial venture Kuruthipunal.

He is well known for his association with Mani Ratnam and received critical acclaim for his work in films such as Mouna Ragam, Nayagan, Agni Natchathiram and Geetanjali.

He has worked as a cinematographer in over 50 films spanning across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, besides directing three films and a few commercials.

Sreeram has been a mentor of some of the prominent film cinematographers in the film industry such as Jeeva, M S Prabhu, Ramji, Chezhiyan, K V Anand, Tirru, K V Guhan, Aravind Krishna, Arjun Jena, Preetha Jayaraman, Sivakumar Vijayan and Balasubramaniem.
