At a time when ghost stories are the trend, film-maker Seenu Ramasamy comes with a feel-good family drama in Dharmadurai. He joins hands with Vijay Sethupathi after Thenmerkku Paruvakattru.
A rural entertainer with an ensemble cast, Dharmadurai is a heart-warming story of a drunkard-youngster and his search for happiness in life.
Produced by RK Suresh, it has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Tamannah plays the heroine while the cast includes Aishwarya Rajesh and Srushti Dange.
Vijay Sethupathi is a doctor, who is an alcoholic. He is pampered by hs mother (Radhika Sarathkumar). His three brothers see him as a shame to the family. One fine day, he informs his mother that he can give up drinking only if his brothers are no more. This lands him in more trouble, as his brothers hatch a plan to kill him. With the help of his mother he escapes. He goes back to his college and relives memories there.
He tries to find out about his buddies – Subhasini (Tamannaah) and Stella (Srushti Dange) and flashbacks open up. The rest of the movie is how he survives his brother’s plans and why he becomes a drinker.
Vijay Sethupathi is the lynchpin of the movie. He delivers what is expected of him. Emotions come naturally for him. Tamannah is apt and does a good show. Aishwarya Rajesh as a village girl appears briefly on screen. Srushti Dange impresses.
Radhika hogs the limelight playing a doting mother. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music adds more weight to emotions.
All said, Dharmadurai is a powerful emotional drama with a mix of drama, romance and action.
