Mapla Singam – Review

Directed by Rajashekhar, Mapla Singam is a village romantic comedy. The lead pair, Vemal and Anjali have brought out their successful onscreen chemistry yet again with this movie. Others in the cast include Soori, Radharavi, Kaali Venkat, Madhumitha, Ramdoss, Singampuli, Mayilsamy and Manobala. Based on village life, the movie starts with a fight between two groups in a village and proceeds to become a fight of a lawyer. Although lively at major parts, the second half is slow and lags. Anjali looks fabulous and bold as usual. Her performance is stunning with excellent dialogue delivery that has been presented neat. Mapla Singam tries to break the grammar and rules of a normal village story. Rajashekhar has done this with his storyline and crisp writing. Loaded with several supporting characters, there seems to be some kind of a disconnect that leaves loopholes in the film. With Soori and Kaali Venkat in the cast, there is no dearth for humour. Comedy is spaced out throughout the film which is a plus point in Mapla Singam. Cinematography and music have complemented the movie and seems to have worked to the director’s advantage. Not much to expect, Mapla Singam is a decent flick that is engaging and comical.
