Come Pongal, National-award winning filmmaker Bala’s Tharai Thappatai is ready to hit the screens.
Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar plays a karakam artiste while actor-director Sasikumar dons the lead role.
Interestingly, Tharai Thappatai is maestro Ilayaraja’s 1000th musical venture.
An elated Sasikumar, said, ‘I play Sannasi, a youngster who is part of a folk artiste group. I have to play thavil as well as nagaswaram in the movie’.
‘The movie speaks about the life and travails of folk artistes in Tamilnadu. so impressed with Bala’s narration that I chose to join the team as co-producer too’, he says.
Interestingly Sasikumar started his career as Bala’s assistant director. On his experience working with him, Sasikumar, says, ‘He was very patient on the sets and managed to extracted the best from all of us’.
‘Music by Ilayaraja is a major highlight. His background score is unique and would touch the soul of audience’, says Sasikumar.
Varalaxmi, daughter of actor Sarathkumar made her debut with Simbu-starrer Poda Podi, eagerly awaits the release.
She says, ‘I play Sooravali, a karagam artiste in Tharai Thappatai. When every other filmmaker thought that I would suit only for urban roles, Bala sir gave me this opportunity.’
