A man of many tasks – Panchu Arunachalam is no more. He was a film producer, script and screenplay writer and lyricist.
He introduced Ilayaraja as music director in Annakili.He turned Rajini and Kamal as commercial heros. He wrote story and script for 99 films. He was the nephew of celebrated lyricist Kannadasan.
Panchu was associated with Rajini in 23 films. He introduced him as hero in Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri.
Panchu Arunachalam and director S.P. Muthuraman were a great combo. They had worked with him in films including Priya, Engayo Ketta Kural, Adutha Varisu,among others.
Muthuraman said Panchu Arunachalam was the pillar of their unit. “He is also adept at writing comedy dialogues and Guru Sishayan bears testimony to his talent,” he said. All his songs for the film Annakili continues to haunt generations of film music lovers.
His songs Manmagale Marumagale Vaa Vaa inSharada and Pon Ezhil Poothathu Puthu Vaanilin Kalangarai Vilakkam and Poopola Poopala in Naanum Oru Penn were evergreen hit. He made Kamal a commercial hero with Sagalakala Vallavan.
