A petition has been filled by Tamil Film Producers Council president and producer of Rajinikanth starrer Kabali, Kalaipuli S Thanu, in the Madras High Court seeking to direct authorities concerned to stop websites from unlawful uploading of Kabali.
The case is expected to come up for hearing later today before Justice Kirubakaran.
Thanu has stated in his plea that it is unfortunate that all new movies are illegally out in websites within few hours of their release causing huge loss to producers.’
There are 169 internet service providers in the country and they earn 70 per cent revenue by illegal downloads. This affects not just film industry but also leads to revenue loss to government’.
When the Centre issued stern warning that the documentary India’s Daughter should not be downloaded and action will be taken on those internet service providers who found guilty, everyone abided. Hence if the Centre takes strict action, piracy can be don away with, Thanu said.
He said that his production venture Kabali is a big-budgeted movie and will release in a big way on 22 July. Hence the court should direct the authorities concerned to stop websites from unlawful uploading of the pirated versions of the movie.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, the movie stars Rajinikanth, Radhika Apte, Dhanshikaa, Kalaiarasan, Dinesh, John Vijay and Kishore among others. Music is by Santosh Narayanan.
