Theri – Review

A lot was written about Theri and the trailer promised a racy and riveting mass commercial entertainer.

The film directed by Atlee that carried huge pre-release hype lives upto it.

Theri produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu has Vijay, Samantha, Amy Jackson, Mottai Rajendran, veteran filmmaker Mahendran and Baby Nainika among others in the cast. Music is by G V Prakash while camera is by George C Williams.

Vijay plays Joseph Kuruvilla, who runs a bakery in Kerala. He leads a happy life with his daughter Nivi (Nainika). He is soft and stays away from violence. Anni (Amy Jackson) is Nivi’s teacher and she has a liking for Joseph. A sequence of events results in Joseph’s past life revealed.

He was once Deputy Commissioner of Chennai named Vijayakumar. He is a tough cop and a threat to criminals. He enquires a brutal rape case of an IT staff and in the event incurs the wrath of a local politician (Mahendran). The latter takes revenge on his family and hence Vijaykumar is forced to leave Chennai with his daughter to stay far off in Kerala. As it happens, the politician runs behind him to Kerala for revenge and all hell breaks loose.

Vijay is the flesh and blood of the movie playing his part with consummate ease. He shoulders the entire burden. His comical acts with Mottai Rajendran is good.

As a stylish cop Vijayakaumar, he gives a right act. Samantha and Amy Jackson are adequate as heroines while Mottai Rajendran does a good show. However the scene-stealer is Mahendran. He plays the antagonist’s role with ease, as he has portrayed cruelty in a relaxed manner.

Actress Meena’s daughter Nainika plays daughter of Vijay. Her cuteness and speech attracts the family audience more.

Cinematographer George C Williams did a pretty good job behind the camera capturing the beautiful landscapes of Kerala.

A couple of songs by G V Prakash are peppy while his background score falls flat.
