After remaining in cans for a long time, Sowkarpettai hit the screens this week. With a long list of films such as Kanchana, Pizza, Aranmanai and Demonte Colony making it big at the box office, Sowkarpettai promises its own share of fun and horror. Directed by Vadivudaiyan and jointly produced by John Max, Jones under the banners of Sri Thenandal films and Frames Inevitable, the movie features Srikanth and Raai Lakshmi in lead roles. With the makers promising a horror comedy, the film has managed to reach a mark. The racy first half seem to be a disappointing as the film progresses. Based on Sowkarpettai, Chennai, the movies show ghosts and how people in the city believe it. It is quite opposite to the scenes in villages, where the belief in ghosts is strong. Both the actors Srikkanth and Rai Laxmi have put in a good show. Raai Lakshmi apart form being a glamours girl has shown her horror side in the movie that is worth watching. The story has several loopholes and other aspects in it seem to hamper the attention of the viewer. Music by John Peter is frightening, which is the need in this genre. Cinematography by S Sreenivasa Reddy seems to manage to show the dark side of humans, in this case ghosts. Editing by Elisa is crisp and could have been done better. Sowkarpettai is an funny ghost outing this season.
