Days after a new set of office-bearers was elected to Nadigar Sangam, actor Suriya today came out with a statement urging them to fulfil aspirations of the members besides respecting senior artistes in the industry.
Taking an indirect dig at the way former president Sarath Kumar and his wife Radhika had campaigned during the elections, Suriya said, ‘don’t construe duty as help. Strive hard to foster unity and never give place for verbal volleys in the name of caste, language and community’.
Interestingly Suriya’s brother Karthi has been elected as treasurer of the association. In the run-up to the polls, Sarath poured angry words on veteran actor and Suriya’s father Sivakumar and actor Kamal Haasan for expressing their solidarity to Pandavar Ani led by Vishal and Nasser.
Congratulating the winners, Suriya, said, ‘the campaign saw few persons dividing members by caste and religion. Duty was construed as help. Veteran artistes came in for flak for supporting the team of their choice’.
Let us resolve that such a situation never arise in future, he said.
