Fight against piracy gets tough

With every other movie becoming a victim of piracy, this has upset the entire Kollywood industry. A movie releases on Friday is out on the same evening in websites and the pirated DVDs are sold in markets the next day.

The latest victims are Sundar C’s Muthina Kathirika and G V Prakash’s Enakku Innoru Per Irukku. Both these movie released yesterday, were out in torrent last evening.

Says those in the trade say, ‘Online piracy is killing the industry. The moment a pirated DVD comes out, online pirates across the globe use it as a source to upload the content on the net’.

Much recently the pirated versions of Suriya’s 24, Vishal starrer Marudhu and Iraivi were uploaded on the day of its release. The entire music album of Achcham Yenbadhu Madamayada, set to tunes by A R Rahman.

Actor and Nadigar Sangam general secretary Vishal, who was a joint meeting with the producers’ council and other cinema unions, said that in order to curb piracy, the licence of theatre owners who encourage it should be cancelled.

Vishal, who has been spearheading Kollywood’s efforts against piracy, had raided cable TV operators and got them arrested for illegally screening new Tamil films a few months back.
