Lyricist Pa Vijay, after a couple of outings as hero, comes up with an all-round show in Strawberry. A horror movie based on a real life incident is Strawberry. Written, directed, produced and enacted by Pa Vijay himself, it has enough elements to keep one glued to their seats. Released by Sri Thenandal Films, the movie speaks about the safety of students in schools. Vijay is a call taxi driver, who leads a happy life with his friend ‘Robo’ Shankar. One day, his services are hired by a rich girl Avni Modi for a month. She is a human soul painter. She briefs Vijay about ghosts, spirits and how they take a medium to achieve their unfulfilled desires. Her father Joe Malluri is a voodo specialist. Malluri explains to him that the spirit of a young girl, who died recently wants to meet him. A flashback reveals that a six-year-old girl Anjali falls from a hole in a school bus and dies on the spot and Vijay’s efforts to rescue her fails. The school authorities threaten the girl’s parents (Samuthirakani and Devayani) to withdraw the case. Then, the spirit takes the help of Vijay to take revenge on the school authorities for their negligence. How, she does it forms the rest. With enough computer graphic scenes, the film manages to appease all. Cinematographer Mara Varman and music composer Taj Noor come up with good work. Vijay plays his part well, while Avni Modi is passable. Samuthirakani and Devayani are good and Thambi Ramiah’s cameo deserves special mention. Strawberry has a normal first half. But the second half compensates.
