Fans of Rajinikanth are miffed at the Madurai Bench of the Madras high Court issuing a notice to their favourite actor to appear before the court on plagiarism charge over his last release Lingaa.
A writ petition was filed with the Madras Bench of the Madras High Court by one K R Ravi Rathinam of Madurai alleging theft of his script by the makers of Lingaa.
In December 2014, the bench ordered producer Rockline Venkatesh to deposit a sum of Rs five crore by demand draft and another Rs five crore by way of a bank guarantee before releasing the movie.
Though the producer complied with the order as he had to release the movie immediately, he appealed against it in the Supreme Court, which passed an order on 20 March 2015 directing him to furnish only Rs.1 crore as bank guarantee.
The apex court also ordered the additional district munsif court at Madurai to dispose of the suit within six months.
As the lower court failed to comply with the deadline, Venkatesh preferred a writ petition in the High Court, which ordered the Madurai court to complete the case by April 30.
Accordingly, the munsiff court served notices on the counsels of both sides to appear before it on March 8 along with their clients including Rajinikanth and the director of Lingaa K S Ravikumar.
