Vil Ambu - Review

12 Feb 2016

Director Suseenthiran is known for making meaningful movies. And when he chose to produce a film expectations rose high on it. Directed by Ramesh Subramaniam, Vil Ambu is a thriller and Suseenthiran a couple of days ago heaped laurels on the movie and said it is a must watch. A look at the movie fulfills the hype partially. There are moments to be seen and enjoyed. While the story could have been handled better, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. But praise the filmmaker for coming out with a unique storyline and out-of-the box idea. Sri of Oonaiyum Aatukuttiyum fame and Harish Kalyan are the heroes while the cast includes Srushti Dange, Chandini, Samskruthy Shenoy. Navin has composed the music and Martin Joe cranks the camera. Interestingly the movie is set in Coimbatore, certainly refreshing as Madurai has been the flavour of Tamil cinema. Harish Kalyan is a middle class youth whose parents want him to take up a IT job. He has other interests. Sri meanwhile is a slum boy and everything is liquor and street brawl for him. He often crosses Harish's life without each other knowing about it. Sri's encounter with police and illegal activities have an effect on Harish Kalyan 's life. Harish ends up in prison and Sri runs for life after her love affair comes out in open. What happens then is the riveting climax. Harish Kalyan and Sri do a good job and makes things interesting. Shrushti makes a cameo kind of role. And Chandini is impressive and down-to-earth. Samskruthy fit for the the school girl role. The rest of the cast are adequate. The director has managed to make it gripping in the last twenty minutes. All said, Vil Ambu speaks about action and reaction in our lives.
