Thoongavanam - Review

12 Nov 2015
What can one say about Kamal Haasan. He is no doubt the living legend of Tamil cinema. His movies always looked fresh and innovative and had something to enthuse and entertain masses. No different is Thoongavanam. Second-in-a-row this year after the hit of Papanasam. As usual, the Kamal in Thoongavanam is entertaining, engaging and keeps you glued to your seats. Kamal Haasan the stylish actor has class written all over the film. An adaptation of French film The Sleepless Night, the movie has everything a class Kamal fan would want. He has stayed away from cliches be it songs or comedy and the story proceeds rapidly to ensure all is well in the film. In a sense, the movie dwells about a father who tried hard to rescue his son from kidnappers. The movie has Trisha, Prakashraj, Yuhi Sethu among others in the cast. Music is by Ghibran and cinematography Sanu Varghese. Divakar (Kamal ) is a narcotics department's tough cop and is followed by Mallika (Trisha) a police woman for a murder. Also there is a drug cartel led by Vittal Rao (Prakashraj). He kidnaps Divakar's son and wants few things be done in his favour. How Divakar rescues him form the movie. A racy show by Kamal and he is there delivering one of his best. A splendid action sequence gets applause. Trisha with a new-look rocks. Also rest of the cast are okay. Ghibran steals the show with his music and BGM. All said, it is a class movie that is superbly executed by Rajesh M Selva.
