Thirunaal Review

08 Aug 2016

After a long gap Jiiva makes a comeback on screen with Thirunaal. Directed by Ramnath, the movie has lots of action sequence that is ample for a village centred flick. Nayanthara, Sarath Lohitaswa, Joe Malluri, Karunas play key roles. Set at the backdrop of Kumbakonam, Blade (Jiiva) is an orphan and a loyal henchman of Naaga (Sarath Lohitaswa). The duo indulges in nefarious activities and the latter have a weakness for women. Vidya (Nayanthara) is a kindergarten teacher and daughter of Naaga’s business partner (Joe Mallury). She likes Blade and wants to marry him. When the parents of Vidya come to know of their daughter’s love affair, they disapprove of it. They even think about leaving town. Meanwhile, Naaga cheats Vidya’s dad of 20 lakhs in business. Blade wants to turn a new leaf in life for his ladylove. He realises that Naaga has been misusing him for his personal gains. Blade then takes his revenge. Jiiva seems to be the blood of the movie. Although this is not the actor's first movie as a ruffian, he still manages to pull it out better. His onscreen chemistry with Nayanthara is enjoyable. The pretty actress looks good and adorable. Sarath is apt for the baddie role. He has rocked the screen well. Neeya Naana Gopinath who makes an appearance as a cop is yet to develop much, his delivery of dialogue is dramatic. The movie could have been better if there was a little less amount of violence. Srikanth Deva’s music is worth mentioning. Mahesh Muthusamy’s cinematography has added more value to the script. Thirunaal is a racy affair and is quite an engaging watch.
