Women-centric movies are a rarity in Tamil cinema these days. After 36 Vayadhinilae, comes a few that manages to strike a chord with the masses.
Joining the list is Rudhramadevi, a movie inspired by the life and struggle of warrior princess who lived in Andhra Pradesh and sacrificed her life for the kingdom and its people in 13th century.
It is an intense and engaging affair by director Gunasekar. There are enough elements into make you glued to your seats., There is grandeur, glossy visuals, valour, revenge and family emotions in the movie.
The movie's grandeur lies ion the story itself. After Baahubali, a standard has been kept for such films. Thankfully Gunasekar's film lives upto it for a long time.
The movie chronicles the travails of the warrior princess and no better actress than Anushka take up the lead role.
The emperor Ganapatidevan (Krishnam Raju) announces that his new-born daughter as son on the advice of his minister (Prakashraj) so that she could succeed him.
She is named Rudhramadevi and is taught formal education and martial arts, she grows up as bold lady.
She is compelled to return to kingdom and take up reigns. There begins lots of troubles. She has a mission to achieve and how she goes about forms the crux.
Anushka is flesh and blood of the movie. She is supoer in stunt sequences.
At ease in emotional scenes too, she walks away with all applause. Emotions comes naturally for her. it Allu Arjun and Rana does their part well.
VFX effects are good while Ilayaraja's background score is the strength.
The movie released by Sri Thenandal Films is a super show.
All said, the movie is a must watch for those who love period films told in a grand manner.
