Production - Vansan Movies Direction - S.U. Arunkumar Music - Niwas K. Prasanna Cast - Vijay Sethupathi, Remya Nambeesan, Vela Ramamoorthy and others. Vijay Sethupathi plays tough police officer in Sethupathi. Arun Kumar, who helmed Pannayarum Padminiyum starring Vijay Sethupathi, joins hands with Vijay Sethupathi. Sethupathi is different from high-octane regular police stories. Remya Nambeesan plays Vijay Sethupathi’s wife, a mother of two children. Vela Ramamoorthy dons the role of a baddie. Sethupathi is an upright cop in Madurai. He means work. He investigates the murder of a constable and fi nds out that a power-wielding infl uential man Vathiyar (Velamoorthy) is the culprit. Meanwhile, a juvenile criminal is shot by Sethupathi and it lands him in trouble. A conspiracy is hatched to remove Sethupathi from the department. It is a battle between Sethupathi and Vathiyar. He takes it in his stride and even thwarts attack on his family. Who emerged winner forms the climax. The movie is simple and nowhere lacks momentum. The story crisp and well-written and the narration is engaging. And Vijay Sethupathi’s one-man act is engaging. He does the role with ease and elan. The interesting feature of Vijay Sethupathi’s performance is that he makes the role more believable. He does not go over the board. Remya Nambeesan who shared the screen with him in Pizza, repeats the act in Sethupathi. And their on-screen chemistry is good. Vela Ramamoorthy chips in well. Dinesh Kumar’s camera and Srikar Prasad’s editing make it and crisp. Naveen Prasanna’s background score gives life. Kumar’s smart writing is the key. On the whole, Sethupathi is engaging.
