Rekka Movie Review & Rating
08 Oct 2016
Rathinasiva may be just one-film-old. But his Rekka promises aplenty. It is racy and riveting.
Three cheers to him for convincing a performer like Vijay Sethupathi to go the mass way.
Quite a collage of many commercial masala fare in Tamil cinema in the recent past, Rekka begins with pace and gathers momentum as it progresses.
Set predominantly in a town like Kumbakonam, the movie explores all mass elements and with Vijay sethupathi uttering punchlines, a new experience awaits audience.
Vijay Sethupathi shoulders the responsibility well. He is right there delivering a super show on screen. His body language and cool dialogue delivery suits the character well. He does it with considerable ease. He excels especially in stunt sequences.
And Lakshmi Menon is back after a break to do a breezy role. Though not much scope for her, yet she manages to leave her identity. K S Ravikumar's poignant portrayal and Harish Uthaman's menacing display of crudeness makes it an engrossing watch. Sathish's one-liners are ribtickling.
Rathinasiva's strength other than Vijay Sethupathi is music composer D Imman. All four songs are chartbusters and sits well in the story. His background score adss to the momentum.
Shiva (Vijay Sethupathi), a law graduate has a mission to accomplish. strives to save girls forced into marriages. During one such attempt, he cross swords with a wicked man (Harish Uthaman).
It is head -on collision between him and the baddie. Meanwhile there is Lakshmi Menon and sweet little romance between them.
Also a flashback reveals why Sethu has taken up this mission to save girls forced into marriages.
At the end of the day, filmmaker Rathinasiva should understand that even a masala fare needs a story. And with a talented actor like Vijay Sethupathi, one could have fed him with better performance-oriented scenes in which he could have scored.
And the villains are more stereotype caricatures that we had seen several times on screen. Concentrating on making the film more racy, the makers have left on the script.
