Director Vishnuvardhan makes a notable return to Tamil cinema after a decade with *Nesippaya*, a suspenseful drama that intertwines a modern love story with an intriguing murder mystery, set against the stunning backdrop of Portugal. Featuring Akash Murali and Aditi Shankar in lead roles, the film impresses with its relatable dialogues, captivating moments, and a standout performance by Kalki Koechlin.

Known for introducing fresh talent and crafting engaging narratives, Vishnuvardhan’s directorial prowess is evident in several well-executed scenes. Akash Murali gives a sincere performance, showing glimpses of his brother Atharva Murali while also hinting at his unique potential. Though his emotional range has scope for improvement, he makes a strong debut. Aditi Shankar brings authenticity to her role with her natural charm and relatable emotional expressions, particularly in scenes that demand frustration and vulnerability.

The story follows a young man’s quest to save his ex-girlfriend, who has been falsely accused of murder. The premise is ripe with potential, though the narrative sometimes leans into being a prolonged drama rather than maintaining the tautness of a thriller. Despite this, Vishnuvardhan ensures the audience remains engaged with visually striking sequences, including Portugal’s picturesque streets, adrenaline-pumping bike chases, and an intense women’s prison setting.

Kalki Koechlin steals the show with her remarkable performance, commanding attention with her powerful dialogues and striking presence. Her portrayal elevates several critical scenes, making her the standout highlight of the film. The supporting cast, including Sarathkumar and Khushboo in brief but impactful roles, adds depth to the storyline. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is a major asset, with soulful compositions that amplify the film’s emotional beats.

While *Nesippaya* is an admirable effort from Vishnuvardhan, it would have benefited from sharper pacing and more concise storytelling to deliver a more impactful experience. Nevertheless, the movie offers a compelling watch with moments of brilliance, strong performances, and a fresh cinematic approach.
